Game Carbon - by Dylan Lawrence

iFluid -- The slickest game you've never played

April 20th 2009 23:30

Introduction:

iFluid is one of those, you know it's independent (indie for short) production games that you come in to expecting a flop and hours later leave with an appetite for more. This is of course a product review so I'll be doing this in parts. Let's begin!

The Nuts and Bolts (Rating 4/5)

iFluid is a pathway adventure game. If you've ever played the MicroRacer games you'll feel right at home here. You play as a small drop of water, no story, no past, nada. You start simple, an omniscient voice tells you how to play and gives you hints. The first few levels are only a taste of the game play. It starts simple enough, but soon you'll be drawn in to puzzles of ever increasing difficulty.

Controls (Rating 3/5)

The controls in iFluid are relatively simple. WASD to move and the mouse for looking around and jumping. The first few levels are easy enough, but soon the controls become harder and harder to use. By the time you start climbing walls you'll want to take your keyboard and smash it in half. Personally an all mouse system would have been better for me.

Graphics (Rating 2/5)

The graphics in iFluid are pretty basic. They're about on par with the last of the original PlayStation's games. You won't be going in to this game looking for a visual experience. (At least not one with god-like graphics.)

Novelty and Replayability (Rating 5/5)

iFluid's best feature is its addictiveness. You can come on for fifteen minutes to waste some time and leave an hour later not realizing how long you spent on it. When I first got iFluid I'd think about a puzzle I was stuck on for hours. It sticks in your mind and keeps drawing you in.

Conclusion

Overall Rating: 3.5

For $10.00 iFluid can't be beat. It's got the addictiveness of more expensive games and the replayability of many of my favorite games. I'd recommend this for hardcore and causal gamers alike. It's a very simple game that will keep you immersed for hours.

You can pick up iFluid for $10.00 at Steam Powered.
