People have been bickering back and forth for well over a year now about whether or not a KOTOR (Knight of The Old Republic) MMO was being developed. I knew for a fact this was happening since July of 2007 because I know somebody and also I was selected to take a survey on what gameplay aspects would be desirable in such a game. It was recently announced at E3 2008. Gamespot coverage here:

I recently took a Survey about a game on SurveySpot. I usually delete this crap but was bored. I tried to copy/paste the description but naturally it was blocked. Here is the information I can recall even though I had to agree NOT to share said information. Screw that.
Next-Gen was in the article about 1000 times along with mentioning SWG all over the place.
Setting: 3500 years before Vader
Title: Star Wars: The Old Republic (no not that crap one you'll find with google)
Features I remember:
8 professions-smuggler and BH stick out immediately
Functional Light side/ Dark side- npcs and others remember what you do and their reactions change accordingly.
Legacy system. When you reach top level, apparently you have the option of producing an offspring with special bonus traits and starting over...or something to that effect.
Companion: Han had Chewy, Luke had R2...blah blah....someone to accompany you. Potential for romance sticks out as something oddly unique
Fully customizable ship. Can be bought or stolen!!
No more miles of reading text. Events happen in game with full voice overs. Sounds damn impossible if you ask me.
Full grouping ala any damn MMO
Some sort of minigame that is used to influence others?? Not many details on that one.
well, there were 10 major points we had to vote on and classify in order of what we liked the best. These are the only ones I remember.
So, could we have something here?? It sounds cool to me!! 1/2 of it was "would you pay 39.99 for game and 12.95 for sub?" and stuff.
So, do I have any more information since 1 year ago? Not really. My guy is very hush hush about all of this so he isn't in a position to leak any info. He HAS told me that the system requirements will be a bit greater than most MMOs available today but you can always lower the settings if your PC is a piece of crap like mine.
So, now you might be wondering what this means for the KOTOR franchise right?
People, fanboys especially, are blown away and appalled that Bioware would take a beloved single player RPG and try to cash in on the MMO market. Star wars fans, however, are split on whether or not they think it's a good idea. KOTOR 3 will probably still be developed eventually.
Star Wars Galaxies is the current MMO based on the Star Wars universe but it was effectively ruined with the NGE (New Game Experience) that was implemented some years ago. I loved SWG until that change. Now it's a boring piece of garbage.
I really can't wait to see what Bioware has in store for Star Wars and the realm of the MMO.
